Hey Jardy it’s Syuu again.
Thanks fot the translation tutorial, it’s very helpful.
I learned the translation from your video on the youtube.
and when I kept on practicing the side hop
I found I prefer to use the farmer or the heel step to do the translation.
Is it ok?
That’s fine Syuu! If you do the homework, try to add at least a few side hops and resets. You can also add other moves if they come naturally. You’ll learn more transitions by Week 4. 🙂
Hi Jardy, With the heel step, you say we should keep our back straight. Other people I’ve trained with always say to lean forward so you can have a better feel for the center. So here are some questions:
1) forward or straight back?
2) do you keep a perpetual pulse w. the chest?
3) how much hip sway do you put into your heel step? Are you generating the heel step from the swaying of the hips?
I remember you saying once that you thought the most important step in house was the heel step, so I want to train it well.
1. So I recommend straight back, personally. Leaning forward looks too aggressive and b-boyish, in my opinion. Your center should be the leg that’s under you. Doing the heel part of the step should be a quick downward tap so you don’t shift your center.
2. You can keep a perpetual pulse with your chest (jack) or you can keep the pulse with a head bob. It depends on how much jacking you’d like to show. I like to keep it subtle, but when I dance to harder music, I use more chest.
3. The heel step doesn’t come from the hips. You don’t have to do too much hips – just a little bit is fine. I usually use the hips as a way to shift my weight and maintain balance. 🙂
I can get the loose legs into side hop on both sides with out music, as soon as I try with music, I fail! As I am a dance teacher I instinctively use counts. Should I not worry about the music for now? Thank you for the challenge! Lots of practice to do!

focusing on just the counts work! Some students have used metronomes as well and kept it slow. It’s a tough move, so practice is a must! 🙂
