About Me

Steven "Rthymz" Garcia was born on march 5, 1982 and raised in Lawrence, Massachusetts. While attending High School Freshman year at Greater Lawrence Technical High he stumbled upon some b boys breaking in the hallway. This was the first time that he had encountered Urban Dance. He asked one of the b boys were exactly did they practice this dance and one of the b boys shouted "At THIS BIG GREEN BUILDING". Curious Steven went to this big green building nicknamed obliviously (The Building) and started learning how to break dance. Around this time he was introduced to several dancers in his city but it was when he meet Alex "DenDe" Colon when everything changed dance wise. Alex told Steve about this place called "UTEC" in Lowell, Mass an after school youth program were they break dance and and also do "HOUSE DANCING". Steven Had never heard of this dance called "HOUSE" so he decided to check it out. Upon entering the room and listening to this jazzy vocal house song playing with a live DJ spinning and seeing the house dancers getting down twirling and spinning real smooth and grace like and seeing so much intricate footwork. It was at that very moment were Steve told himself "THIS IS WHAT I WANNA DO, THIS IS IT "HOUSE". Steven graduated from Middelsex Community College in Lowell, Mass in 2004 with his associates degree in Criminal Justice and after wards decided to attend The Art Institute of Ft. Lauder dale in Florida to pursue his BA Degree in Film and video. While in Florida he meet Brendan "Shade" Byrne and Evelyn Paniqua two people who also were into the house culture. Together all 3 within the next 5 years helped cultivate the house scene in south Florida by throwing workshops, events, parties. In 2011 Steven decided to take his love for the house culture even further and decided to move to the place were this dance cultivated from NEW YORK CITY. He moved to Bush wick, In Brooklyn. Living in New York he was made a member of "The House dance Project" a group organized by Byron Cox. He also got guidance from some of the pioneers of the house scene such as Caleaf Sellers, Mike u4ria, Conrad Rochester, Tone Mcgregor, and Sekou. Today Steven considers New York City his Home because it helped improve his dance tremendously. He continues to share the love for this dance and the music with everyone he meets. "My good friend Dj Ivan Diaz once said to me this music can heal and change lives for the better" and I'm just one of the many lives.
